CLUB NEWS: The members of the St Marys Machine Knitting Club sadly report that one of its founding members, June Porteous, died early in December 2009.
Although June had been unable to knit in recent years she was very active in the early years of the Club. She was a driving force in arranging the first Seminar in South Australia and a regular contributor to Downunder Machine Knitting magazine.
June was a keen Passap knitter (although, like most of us, she had a bit of a collection) and she was known for leaving a brick on the pedal of her motor so the Passap could merrily knit baby blankets while she had a cup of tea.
June assisted Joy Taylor in her annual camps for knitters throughout the 90s and was generous in sharing her time and expertise. She will be sadly missed.

CLUB NEWS: Hello everyone and A Happy New Year to you all.
It’s a long time since I wrote something for our “News Letter” and you could blame sheer laziness on my part or one or two other problems that I had which aren’t worth talking about now or the fact that it was our 50th Wedding Anniversary which we celebrated with family and friends and seemed to take a lot of organizing. Yes we did have a great time!
So now that we have that little bit of trivia out of the way I’ll get onto the important bits. Our president Brenda Boston likes to come up with ideas to keep us interested in the wonderful craft of machine knitting and we usually start the year off with a program suggesting articles for us to attempt to make.
We have four weeks to complete these items but sometimes it takes us a little longer and so there are always a few suggestions that never even get started but come close to “Show Time” and then we’re all frantically knitting so that we have something to enter. This year we were asked to make Tea Cosies as a special display for our show. We had some fun creating these. Next year we will be back to dressed dolls. All in all though we did have a good year’s knitting and I know from reports that the Melrose Camp was enjoyed by those who attended, so much so our final project for the year was an article using the “Origami” technique. You will have to wait for the results though because some of us are still working on them. Watch out for the next news letter.
In late November we held our A.G.M and I’m pleased to report that all “officers” were voted in to hold the same positions and I will enclose a copy of names and addresses etc. Every year we have our Christmas Dinner held at one of the local Hotels; our club contributes a nominal sum of money towards the payment and we exchange gifts, play a few paper and pen games and generally have a good time. Our final meeting for the year is lunch with food provided by our members. Any excuse for a feed. Yummee.
We are looking forward to another interesting year of knitting so keep watching for more news from our club. On behalf of Brenda and all our members I wish you happy knitting and the very best in the New Year.

The Payneham Machine Knitting Club held its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 6th July 2010. As Dawn McBeth wanted to stand down after 5 years as president, Wendy Smith volunteered for that position. Rita Divine remains as Secretary and Sigrid Burford as the Treasurer.
Dawn reviewed the past year and gave thanks to those members of the club who had given demonstrations during that time. These included mock crochet edgings, garment bands and buttonholes, pockets using the ribber, necklines and crochet flowers for decoration. She also remarked on the many and varied items that had been brought to the club for the Show and Tell sessions. We have several very prolific knitters.
For our Christmas break up we took a Dolphin cruise on the Port River, which was enjoyed by all those who went. We did not meet in February as the weather was too hot.
The club still meets at the Payneham Community Centre, Payneham Road on the first Tuesday of the month, commencing at 12.30, when we have lunch. The meeting proper starts at 1p.m. New members are always welcome.
This year we have had a couple of past members re-join the club and we are very pleased to see that they have come back to knitting again.

CLUB NEWS: On 11th May 2010 Port Augusta Machine Knitting Club celebrated their 30th Anniversary
At Stirling North Progress Hall with members attending from Whyalla, Cowell, Port Augusta, Wallaroo, Port Pirie and Adelaide.
In the early 1980’s Port Augusta Machine Knitting Club started meeting at members’ homes and in 1982 night classes commenced at Mavis Jones’ home. In 1984 at TAFE the 1st Seminar was held, attended by 67 knitters and 9 demonstrators. Membership grew from 6 to 30 and in 1992 the first Newsletter was sent out to members for $8 per year.
Although members have dwindled in recent years everyone is still keen to learn and meetings are still held every Tuesday in Mavis Jones’ workroom, except during school holidays.
The morning started off with a lovely morning tea and then Carol Ashton had everyone joining in with games and skits. Everyone received a small hand-made gift from the club. After a lovely lunch Mavis Jones cut the 30th birthday cake.
Members displayed their work at a show and tell session and included were toys, scarfs, tops, jackets and knee rugs and even fine wire jewellery done on the knitting machine
