The aims of the Association are to promote, foster, develop and advance the craft and to encourage the highest standards in machine knitting.
The Association also encourages interaction between country and city knitters and contact is maintained between them.
Machine Knitters Association South Australia was officially formed in September 1989, although knitters and machine knitting clubs have been around the state for many years. Membership is open to any person who is interested in machine knitting
Workshops The Association also brings demonstrators from interstate and overseas to run day long workshops. Weekend workshops are held annually in various parts of South Australia and these have proven very popular.
Activities The committee meets on a regular basis to attend to the day to day running of the Association and to arrange workshops, camps, seminars and other matters requiring attention.
The annual subscription of $25 which is payable in September entitles members to
Four Newsletters per annum
Exchange of ideas and advice
Opportunity to participate in all Association activities at a reduced rate
Information on clubs, demonstrators, teachers etc
There is a joining fee of $5.
NEWSLETTERS BY E-MAIL — several members are now receiving their Newsletter by e-mail. Please let me know if you are prepared to do the same. It may be possible to receive same even if not on broadband if your server will accept the size. With May letter I had some come back but, by sending in two parts, was able to send to these people. The bonus of receiving it in this way is colour, early delivery, and a very clear letter when printed from e-mail, and also this method of delivery helps with cost to Association. e-mail address marfran@westnet.com.au .

The next container was due to arrive in South Africa around the 24th April 2010.
We would like to thank everyone for the support that they have given to us and the children of South Africa. We are very grateful for all that you have done for us.

A brief look at the last 20 years..... The first member to enroll in the association was Doris Payne who has contributed a lot to machine knitting over the years, going back to 1971 she ran classes for Adult Education.
Nesta Curtis was also a great ambassador, who was always there when we needed a demonstrator.
It is thought St. Marys was the first club to be formed and was held in a private home in the area in about 1971.
These days there are about 30 odd knitting clubs throughout both the country and the metropolitan areas.
Over the years we have had many ladies who have served the Association in executive positions.
Diana Ledo was our first president and this must have been a mammoth job. Many others have taken a position on the committee and we thank each and every one of them for giving many hours of their time and the hard work they have all performed.
