INTRODUCTION FROM THE NEW PRESIDENT
Hello Members,
I would like to take the opportunity in this first newsletter since the 2011 AGM to introduce myself, and to thank the out-going members of the committee for all the work they have put in as members of our committee.
Wendy, Roma and Margaret have all given many years in various positions within the committee and as demonstrators. We still welcome their presence as valued members of the Association.
Although they are no longer on the committee, Wendy and Roma will be responsible for the camp at Melrose, along with Corry, Rose and other committee members. I am sorry I will not be able to attend this camp as I have a previous family commitment.
Many members will already know who I am, but for those who do not, I am a member of Payneham, Smithfield and Brooklyn Park Clubs, and the founder of Ingle Farm Club. The Ingle Farm Club meets monthly, and we have a lot of fun, thanks to the help and the friendship given by a great group of ladies.
I have been hand-knitting since I was five years old, thanks to my grandmother, and I have been machine-knitting for about 40 years. My first machine was an Empisal KH90, which I still have. My first club was at Pam Sallis’s at Rostrevor. This later became the Payneham club.
I shared my love of our craft with my mother, Laura Haythorpe, and my Aunty Ronnie Tyner.
Many of our long term members will probably remember these two lovely ladies who are, sadly, no longer with us. Ronnie Tyner, along with her husband, Laurie, were the founders of the Smithfield Club.
I hope to be able to meet up with as many members as possible throughout the year, but if anyone has anything they need to contact me about, they are welcome to email me at shirleyh@chariot.net.au
I would like to thank our new committee for the help I know they are going to be in this coming year, and I wish all of our members and their families a very happy Christmas and a wonderful year to follow.
